Oh, and one time they go outside and Katie sits in a chair. By the way, get used to watching Micah and Katie sleep, because that's pretty much the whole movie. Whatever it is, it's up to no good, pulling off masterful scares such as moving keys off the counter, and gradually shifting a door while Micah and Katie sleep.
Katie carries some baggage, namely some sort of ghost, or demon, or.well it's not really clear. In any other film she would stand out as a shrill, unlikeable person, but in the twisted world of Paranormal Activity she is borderline tolerable. In a hard-to-swallow supernatural twist, Micah has somehow acquired a live-in girlfriend, Katie.

The kind of guy who spends his free time at the mall, conspicuously checking out 16-year olds while chatting loudly on his Bluetooth headset about hair gels. It recreates the experience of being stuck in a room with Micah (pronounced MEEK-uh, or DOOSH-bag), the kind of guy you immediately want to start punching and never stop punching until the punching is done. That caused excitement for the following entries, but they didn't follow through on that original premise.Paranormal Activity succeeds by putting the viewer in the most deviously terrifying position ever imagined by a filmmaker: captive audience to an idiot's home movie. And the ending is particularly terrifying as it implies Katie is building an army of women for the demon to possess.

The violence in this movie also goes up a notch as Katie actually twists the neck to kill one of the characters. The camera work shifts in this movie since most of the disturbances get caught on the teenager's Apple devices instead of handheld or security cameras. Katie is still connected in this film as she technically lives across the street from the characters and eventually kidnaps the son of this new family.
This factor didn't hinder this particular production, but the shift in narratives does become an issue in the later films.
In Paranormal Activity 4, the franchise completely drifted from the original characters and focused the haunting on a different family altogether. Many people find possessed children disturbing, so this element really diversified the film from the first two while maintaining that fearful tone. There were many scenes where the children said and did creepy things, showing obvious signs of possession. When Katie suggests the ghost has followed her to their two-story tract house in suburban San Diego, California, Micah buys a video camera in the hopes of capturing paranormal activity. The horrors started much earlier for this film, and the parents were still heavily involved as main characters even though the premise for the movie focused on the sisters from the first two films as children. Micah, a day-trader, and Katie, a student who claims that a ghostly entity has haunted her since her youth, are a young couple 'engaged to be engaged'. Instead of holding onto that element with full force, the franchise made the smart move by simply elevating the movie to create a more enjoyable experience for the viewers. One significant difference with the premise for this movie was that the "realness" of the franchise was finally beginning to tarnish. Since Paranormal Activity 2 had proven to Paramount Pictures that the franchise was profitable, increased funding seemed to support the production of Paranormal Activity 3, which took place in the past but still had better quality than the first two movies.
